GNC CELEBRATES 29th ANNUAL GHANAFEST IN CHICAGO

The Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago (GNC) and its Affiliates proudly present the 29th Annual Ghanafest in Chicago, IL. Ghanafest is a one day festival every last Saturday of July that displays Ghanaian culture, food, fashion, and music. Members of the Ghanaian, African, African-American, and every community near and far are cordially invited to join in the festivities and activities marking this monumental event!
This year marks the golden anniversary as it is being held on the 29th day of July and this marks the 29th year of Ghanafest operations.
The theme of the celebration is: Unity in Motion.
On Saturday July 29, 2017, Ghanafest will be located in Washington Park; 5500 South Russell Drive, Chicago, IL.
A $10 gate donation allows patrons unrestricted access into the Ghanafest all day. There are various attractions and activities available such as Ghanaian food vendors where guests can taste authentic Ghanaian dishes such as waakye, jollof, and banku just to name a few. There will also be a large number of vendors selling goods such as shea butter, african clothing, art, and jewelry. There is no shortage in cultural displays as the Chiefs and Queenmothers of the various affiliates will participate in the parade of chiefs, and tribal cultural performances such as adowa, borborbor, kplango dancing will also be featured.
Live music will be provided around the clock by the Besabi Band featuring world traveled musicians that will delight patrons with a wide variety of music and also by accompanying any musician or stage performer.
Ad Books acting as a directory and informational not only to Ghanaian culture but also to various Ghanaian organizations, churches, and businesses will be available for purchase! This ad book will be a one stop shop for all things Ghana!
Raffle tickets will also be available to get a chance to win some of the amazing prizes provided such as a 60” LED TV, laptop, an art sculpture, and more!
The youth will also be delighted by the abundance of activities at the Youth Village tents: which include dancing competitions, Ghana trivia, face painting, a bouncy house, and much more!
Newest high-life sensational musician Joseph Nkrumah Buabeng, popularly known as Nero X will be the special invited musical guest. Highlife Artiste Of The Year nominee Nero X has currently been blazing the airwaves with his unique sound and boasting the achievements of his hit singles including “Osey”, “Frema” “Nyame Dadaw” & his newest hit “Handkerchief”. Nero X will be at Ghanafest to socialize and interact with patrons before providing Chicago with a memorable energized performance.
The Executives and members of Ghana National Council, the planning committee of Ghanfest, and its affiliates are advising Ghanaians and friends of Ghana to participate in this legendary festival July 29th, 2017. They should tell their families, friends and co- workers the relevance of Ghana’s history and culture and advise them to join us in celebration.
This event is supported by the City of Chicago, the Mayor, the 20th ward Alderman, and the 2nd district Police Commander along with various other businesses and organizations!
