Sprinter Janet Amponsah has given a ray of hope to Ghana athletics after picking the first ticket for this year’s international Athletics Associations Federations (iAAF) Championships to be staged in london in August.

Amponsah picked the qualification at the War Eagle Invitational Meet in the USA, where she clocked a time of 23.10s in the women’s 200m final, finishing Behind Courtney Blanden.

The 24- year-old Amponsah, who is at the Middle Tennesesee State University, had been pushing for qualification since the outdoor season began and was excited at picking qualifying, having missed the 2015 World Championships in China due to problems with her entry visa.

Her coach, Dean Hayes, said in an interview: Janet has been working very hard to be at the World Championships this season and I believe her hard work has paid off.

Now, it’s time to work harder and prepare for the Games in London.”

Amponsah, who has represented Ghana at the Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games, will be making her debut at the IAAF World Championships to be held in London in August.
