Paa Kwasi Sam is President-elect of Chicago’s GNC

paa-kwasi-sam Mr. Emmanuel Paa Kwasi Sam , President of the Okuapeman Fekuw and current VP of the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago, GNC, has been elected to a three year term as president of the GNC. He beat the incumbent, President Ebenezer Antwi-Nsiah by 9 to 5 votes. The GNC rules allow only members of the council who have served three consecutive years and attended meetings 80 percent to qualify to run for the office of the President. This rule does not apply to other elected positions such as the Treasurer and the Sergeant-at-arm. The candidates for these two offices must however be members of the GNC.
In his concession remarks, President Ebenezer Antwi-Nsiah thanked members of the council for giving him the opportunity to serve and congratulated Paa Kwasi Sam for winning the elections. Mr. Nsiah’s term of office ends December 31 2016. The President-elect, Paa Kwasi Sam noted that things went a little too far during this year’s campaign for the presidency and appealed to all to come together and work for the betterment of the Ghanaian community.
The Sergeant-at-arm elect, Mr. Asare Boafo run unopposed. No candidate contested for the position of the Treasurer. The current Treasurer, Ms. Evelyn Mensah promised to hold the fort until a permanent replacement is found.

Three new members of the GNC,The Mrantie Kuo, Nzema and Wogbe Dzeke Associations participated in the voting for the first time! The elections were free and fair.
In his closing prayer, Rev. Dr. Kofi Noonoo thanked the Almighty God for giving the Ghanaian community here a new leader. He also prayed for the Lord to give the president -elect the wisdom to choose competent cabinet members to move the community forward.

No date has been set for the swearing-in of the new officers.
